Paris – Fading like a childhood memory (magazine)

Yesterday I went to the Toffie Pop Festival and bought a copy of the magazine ‘Paris – Fading like a childhood memory’, I’m almost done reading it. Grab your own copy at Church (12 Spin Street Cape Town), it’s good entertainment and inspiration.

Something I will remember is a powerful sentence from page 8.

Tom London from Soweto’s Finest says that when we dance we find purpose in our bodies.

My new favorite color: mustard

I just bought a lovely dress in mustard color and must say, I like this color. It’ fresh and happy… have a look at Etsy how nice it can be in the form of anything :)

Live at home

“For too many people, being happy at home is pretty much an abstract idea, something they can’t know or imagine, until it appears on some taste maker’s must-have list, or in a magazine, or reposted on Tumblr. A home sweet home is not curated or produced by acquiring a perfect arrangement of chairs, lamps and friends. A real living space is made from living, not decorating. A bored materialist can’t understand that a house has to become a home. It happens, not through perfection but by participation.”

Reasons for Optimism

Have you heard of the website Reasons for Optimism?

“It’s easy to forget that in today’s not-so-optimistic world real progress continues, beauty appears, brave new worlds are explored, and creativity flows. We keep seeking—and occasionally finding—our best selves. There are, in fact, reasons for optimism everywhere we look.”

From ideas for housing for the homeless to the answer why people in big cities walk fast.

iPhone app ‘Blender’

Husband Desmond downloaded this awesome app (‘Blender‘) to double expose images. We should do this with our ‘normal’ photographs as well.

Missing tulips

Even as a student I bought myself flowers. My mom told me, that’s not wasting money. I mean, it makes so happy… so just found these and wish I had such a big bunch at home right now.

tea = ‘Thomas’, ‘Edison’ and ‘Alva’

“The three sculptures ‘Thomas’, ‘Edison’ and ‘Alva’ offer an arty alternative to decorate a wall. Their eccentric shapes have been adapted from high voltage insulators. Usually, these are made out of ceramic to isolate the fixing of electrical conductors.

By hanging all of them on a wall, their varying shapes have the effect of creating a dynamic picture. Further, they could be used as wall knobs.” I like.

The River (exhibition) 4 – 21 April 2012 @ Salon91, Cape Town

I am so proud, my friend Maaike that is like a sister to me, exhibits in Cape Town!

Come to the opening on Wednesday 4 April 2012 at 19h30, Salon 91, 91 Kloof Street, Cape Town.

THE RIVER
From the minds of two young thinkers in a purple-flowered-city. This fantastic tale emerges, mysterious and gritty:  A sloth, on a terrible journey, hoping to recover what he’s lost;  banks will be flooded, lines will be crossed. Pretorian visual artists Louis Minnaar and Maaike Bakker present a twisting narrative exhibition of collaborated  visual works blending with words by Jaco van der Merwe.”
